And
the award goes to... Johnny's deservedly won more acclaim
for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. He won the 'Jupiter'
award 2003 for Best International
Male Actor - that's the audience award given
out by the German magazine 'CINEMA' - and Connie
posted a
terrific scan of Johnny accepting his award.
And Reemi
reported that Johnny won in the 'Favorite Movie Hero' category
at the
2nd Annual Spaceys. |

Hank's
Back... DeppInTheHeartOfTexas
and stace discovered
that Johnny
will make a guest appearance as the voice of Hank Hill's
yoga instructor in an upcoming episode of 'King
of the Hill'. The episode #169, entitled "The
Unbearable Lightness of Being Hank", is
scheduled to air on May 9th on Fox. The Fox.com web site has
no official confirmation of this yet, but Really
found another
short mention of it (where they refer to the episode by
its shorter title of 'Hank's Back'). |

Man
at His Best.. Johnny graces the cover of the May
issue of Esquire
magazine (US edition) -- and the inspiration for the article
was our very own Emily Bronte
(the 'Alison' mentioned in the article). E Bronte generously
offered to compile a list of questions from Zoners, and came
back fast with the replies from the author of the article. If
you haven't already read them on the News board, you can read
them here. Our deep thanks, once again, to E
Bronte as well as to Miranda
for writing up the
Esquire article for everyone to enjoy. Read it fast before
it disappears from our News board! |

Johnny
features in more mags this month -- not least,
Playboy magazine (US edition, May
issue). You can read a small excerpt from the interview at
the
Playboy site (warning - nude
girlie pics!), and liz
found this
feature which has some tempting quotes from the article.
Our
thanks to Donna
for having typed up the interview for us.
Other
US mags: 'Mort Rainey' is on the cover of
the current issue of the 'Ellery Queen Mystery magazine',
and Johnny's in this months 'Bliss'
mag. Thanks
to Lamso, Johnnylovesme! and
Johnny's Babe
for the news. |

UK
mags: There's a two page article in this month's
'Lounge' magazine,
and look out next month for the new 'Blink'
mag which will feature an interview with Johnny.
Other
mags: Johnny's on the cover of the Italian
'Vanity Fair' this month (issue #17, dated April 22), as well
as in two Australian mags:
the April issues of 'New Idea' and 'Filmink'
where you can read an interview with Johnny at their on-line
site. Thanks to Karen, Emma,
Reemi, Cri, Shnugarpuff and
gronki. |

All
for the sake of their art.. Filming of The Libertine
moved to the Isle of Man film studios after Easter, and a squad
of eager extras queued up to audition for some nude dream sequences.
Reemi found an
article about the
Libertine Lovies; Emma
discovered this fun
article at Manx Radio, where you can hear an audio clip
of one of the girls relating her experience of stripping for
the camera; and Still-Rather-Timid
found this long,
informative article on how the island's fast becoming the
latest filming mecca. There's another short
sound clip, this time of Johnny confirming that filming
is virtually complete. And finally, hats off to Emma
again, for finding this
hilarious take on The Libertine's demands of the
extras at The Sunday Times (you may need to register to view
it). |

Hello
London... Johnny was interviewed live from the Isle of
Man on the UK's 'Richard and Judy' show last Thursday. Thanks
to Anonymous and
Emma for the tip-off,
and to Sue C for
willingly (and painfully!) writing up a transcript for us. You
can see our video of the full interview on the Zone's MultiMedia
page. On the same day, Johnny was on Jo Wiley's Radio One show
and you can hear
his interview here. Thanks to Roo,
Charly and Emma
for the heads-up, and to Emma
again for finding this
clip of Johnny talking about The Libertine on BBC
Radio 5. And finally, for UK fans, thanks to Kate1
and Emma for alerting
us that Johnny will be a guest on the UK's Heart
1062's Breakfast show. His interview will air on May 4th
sometime between 7- 9am. |

Secret
Window releases in the UK this coming Friday
30 April and Sony are running a
competition for UK & Eire fans to win some exclusive
beanie hats & blankets. (Pity it's not Mort's old bathrobe!)
Thanks irene for
the neat find.
And
Patty found an interesting critique
of Johnny's work at The
Guardian, which should get fans talking on the Porch...

Secret
Window comes to DVD as an early summer surprise for
US fans on June 22nd,
and you can pre-order
it now at Amazon. JoBlo.com
can be relied upon to lust after it as much as the rest of us,
as well as giving more info on what we can expect to see on
the disc. Bonus features will include an audio commentary by
writer-director David Koepp, four deleted scenes and a 3-part
Behind-the-scenes documentary. Thanks to Kate1,
Reemi, Shadow and Abby
for the great news. |

Hold
on to your hat for other film news.. Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory is now in pre-production at Pinewood
Studios near London. Filming of Tim Burton's latest project
is scheduled to start on June 21st on (at least) five of their
largest soundstages - thanks Annie
and Sleepy for
the updates. And Helene
discovered that a new film called In Search of Ted Demme
features Johnny. Described as a hilarious sendup of the
tribute-film genre, this documentary trails Demme's urn as his
ashes spend time with a rich cast of buddies. The film is due
to have its world premiere at the the
Tribeca Film Festival,
New York. The festival runs from 1st - 9th May -- check their
schedule for screening details. |

Some
upcoming rarities on TV.. grapesgirl
reported that Johnny's favourite comedy programme, 'The
Fast Show' will be airing soon on BBC
America. Renamed 'Brilliant'
for the US, the show's 2nd series will be airing weekly from
Thursday May 13th, with repeats on Fridays. And for UK fans,
there are two airings of 'Charlie - The Life & Art of
Charles Chaplin' this coming weekend 1-2 May, on Sky
Cinema. Johnny's in the movie for less than 5 minutes,
but he shares his love for two of Chaplin's films in two separate
clips. Thanks irene and
Kyrie for the
info. |
